Dr. Kouri offers Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT), a gentle laser treatment used to help control glaucoma. SLT works by improving the eye’s natural drainage system, which helps lower eye pressure — an important part of protecting your vision. The procedure is quick, performed in the office, and does not involve surgery or incisions. For some patients, SLT can reduce the need for glaucoma eye drops or help eye drops work more effectively. During your appointment, Dr. Kouri will discuss whether SLT laser treatment may be a good option for your specific type of glaucoma.
SLT is performed in the office and usually takes only a few minutes per eye. Before the procedure, your eye will be numbed with drops to keep you comfortable. During the laser treatment, you may see bright lights or feel a mild sensation, but most patients do not experience pain. After the procedure, you can typically return to normal activities the same day. Your eye pressure will be checked at follow-up visits to see how well the treatment is working. Dr. Kouri will review your results and determine if additional treatment or continued eye drops are needed.
